Approximately every two years, the Genshagen Foundation organises an Academy under Trees, a European conference exploring various social issues through the lens of art and culture.
This European event series is part of the international Dialogues en humanité network, which organises discussions around the world, including in Lyon, Addis Ababa, Dakar, Porto-Novo, Rabat, Bangalore and Salvador de Bahia.
The Dialogues en humanité initiative aims to promote discussions on universal themes. It breaks away from the traditional conference format and encourages all participants to engage equally in the discussions under the trees, share their life experiences and impart their knowledge under the trees.
The open nature of the event provides an opportunity for in-depth discussion and enables participants who would not otherwise meet to debate and reflect together. The following rules apply during the event: freedom of speech, benevolent attention, active listening and respect, and equality for all in transnational discourse.
The Academy under Trees is about learning for one’s own path through exchanges with artists, cultural institutions representatives, experts, scholars, journalists, and civil society organisations representatives from various countries.
